Brittany villa
This project is in its infancy !
It is the complete design and renovation of a seaside Villa on the Brittany coast!
It consists of replacing the roof which while it looks good has only about 5 years life left in it, so our advice is always start with the structure, and keeping out the rain and storms is very important along with the additional insulation. This will off course also reduce your heating costs.
The top floor will remain very much as it is layout wise, we will just be reducing the size of one of the bedrooms by about a meter width to enlarge the bathroom allowing us to accommodate a free standing bath ,separate shower, wc and wash hand basin.
On the ground floor the rooms have been opened up by removing some of the walls to provide a large kitchen diner, with pocket sliding doors through to the living room – a cosy space with a wood burning stove for the Christmas, New Year holiday.
There is also a wc tucked under the stairs on this floor.
The lower ground floor is being converted into a disabled friendly apartment of bedroom with ensuite and a living space with direct access to the re landscaped gardens and off street parking.
All plumbing and electrics are being replaced, with an economic and environmentally friendly heating source (air source heat pump) replacing the oil fired central heating.
Existing single glazed wooden windows and steel shutters will be replaced with up to date double glazed aluminium versions with grey powder coated finish to ensure long life without having to paint them and compliment the local stone the building is constructed in.
A small timber framed extension clad in Douglas Fir boarding will provide porch areas on both ground and basement floors which will also reduce heat loss when entering and leaving the house. The cladding will naturally fade to a silvery grey colour without treatment of any kind over time.
