Renovate & rebuild

This project was to renovate/rebuild the ancient stone cottages in to a home and design studio whilst respecting the vernacular architecture and materials of the other buildings in the hamlet as they are listed as being of architectural interest.

As normal the first stage was to roughly lay out the building interior spaces so that we could determine the outlet positions for the drainage. Once this had been done the soil tests and design of the proposed system was carried out and applied for. The design of the building exterior progressed and when drainage approval obtained the permis de construire application was submitted. In order to provide as much natural light as possible to the design studio we initially proposed a large amount of glazing in a gable end but this had to be modified in accordance with the requirements of the Architectes de Bâtiment de France and smaller windows were substituted.
